Uninstall Windows® XP on Sony® VAIO Z Series Laptop
Guidelines to uninstall Windows XP on the Sony VAIO Z Series laptop.
While the Sony VAIO Z Series laptop come preinstalled with Windows 7, previous owners may have installed Windows XP as the operating system. You may want to uninstall the OS to either reinstall it or install the latest OS. Here are the guidelines to uninstall Windows XP and the things to keep in mind while doing so:
- What to keep in mind
- Removing Windows XP
- Issues that may occur during the process
What to keep in mind
First and foremost, back up all your cumulated data, as you may lose everything stored on the disk in an event something goes awfully wrong. Programs installed currently will not be preserved in the uninstallation process. Have the application installation discs in place as you will have to reinstall them. Above all, the device driver settings will be lost.
Removing Windows XP
One of the ways of uninstalling Windows XP is to reboot the system in ‘Safe Mode’ to begin the process. To boot in ‘Safe Mode’, press ‘F8’ until the boot up options are displayed. Log in to the system as an administrator in order to have the full rights to do so. Access ‘Control Panel’ and open ‘Add/Remove Programs’. A dialog box will appear on the screen with a list of all the installed programs on the system. Double-click on the item to uninstall Windows XP. When the message, “Are you sure you want to uninstall Windows XP and restore your previous operating system?” appears, click ‘Yes’ to continue. After the process is completed, the system will reboot with the previously installed OS.
Issues that may occur during the process
It is always good to be ready for the unforeseen. There is the possibility that the option ‘Uninstall Windows XP’ may be unavailable. In such a scenario, you will have to manually uninstall the OS by inserting the installation disc for the OS that you want to change to. Back up your data before beginning the manual procedure, as you stand to lose all your data in the process.
