Tips to connect an External Monitor in Sony® VAIO Y Series
How do you connect an external monitor to Sony VAIO® Y Series?
The Sony VAIO® Y Series laptops are among the most highly portable notebooks. With about nine hours of battery backup, you can work on the move. The Sony VAIO® Y Series notebooks pack a punch with up to 640 GB of hard disk space and come with Intel® processors. Like other Sony notebooks, these are slim and weightless. The Sony VAIO® Y Series laptops have a 13.3 inch high resolution LCD monitor. These laptops have a VGA and a HDMI port for display. If you feel that the built-in monitor is not practical enough, then you have the option to connect an external monitor through the VGA port. In order to connect an external display device, these are the necessary steps:-
- Connect the Monitor to your Notebook
- Toggle Display Device Settings
- Configure the External Monitor
Connect the Monitor to your Notebook
Since you are going to connect the external monitor to your notebook’s VGA port, you need to have a VGA cable. Connect one end to the notebook and the other end to the external monitor. Switch on both the notebook and the external monitor. The monitor will be detected as soon as it is connected.
Toggle Display Device Settings
If you do not see anything on the external monitor, then you will have to toggle the ‘display device’ settings. Find the function key that has a monitor drawn on it. Pressing it will toggle the display device. There are three possibilities. The first option will make your laptop’s screen the only display device. The second option will make the external monitor the primary display device. The third option will make both the display device.
Once you get the display on the external monitor, you should configure it. To do this, simply right click on the desktop and choose graphic properties. On the configuration screen, you should select “Multiple Display”. Then choose “Extended Desktop” and choose a primary display device. Note that the best thing to do is to set your notebook as the primary display device. This can be very useful because you will be able to remove the external monitor at any time without any problem.
