Nevertheless, the laptop system ready with features such as DVDROM, minimum of 1GHz CPU speed, 20 GB hard disk space, 2 GB RAM and graphics card supporting DirectX 9 needed to install and run Windows 7. In addition, an upgrade can only occur from Windows Vista operating system. In a case where the user has either Windows XP or Windows 98, the options available are to either reformat the hard disk to wipe out the Operating System allowing for a new installation or install Windows 7 as a multi boot operating system or Upgrade to Vista then finally to Windows 7. Last but not least, make a backup of all data stored in the hard disk just in case an unforeseen event occurs in order to avoid losing valuable data and working hours. Also, have installation disks of all programs currently installed in the laptop, i.e. office, antivirus and drivers, as the process can remove them.
Tips to upgrade
When doing an upgrade, it is recommended that clean install option be used since errors encountered previously in the PC are not carried forward. The procedure restarts the system clock making your laptop work just as fast as a new one.
Switching to Windows 7does not affect the laptop performance as the system specification required to run the operating system are already provided for in the laptop from the onset. However, the user may experience a slight reduction is system speed as the operating system demands more of system resources compared to the previous versions.
