Recovery Partition in Sony® VAIO W series
Tips on Recovery Partition in Sony Vaio W Series.
Recovery is the process of bringing the failed system back to the initial stage with the help of recovery CD. This recovery CD contains the factory settings of the system. Recovery allows you to clean your system hard drive and then reinstalls the Operating System. In your Sony Vaio W series system also, the manufacturer has provided the Recovery CD to recover your system from any of the faulty conditions. But the fact is that once you lose this recovery CD, you won’t be able to access the recovery CD again. As the Recovery partition deletes all data from the system, it is required that you back up all the important system data in to some other device.

As the bundled CD-ROMs are less effective, most of the systems now use hard drive partitions instead of CD recovery. The Sony Vaio W series system could be easily recovered from the hard drive partitions and hence this process seems to be much faster than the normal CD recovery. But this method also has a disadvantage. When the hard drive is formatted the entire system shall be lost. The recovery CD can be used to recover the system when the system becomes unstable. To use the recovery partition, you need to press down the power button and use the 'F11' key to launch the Recovery manager. Then based on the instructions, you could recover the system.
Working of recovery partition
The Recovery partition creates a recovery environment when the Sony Vaio W series system boots from the recovery CD. When you accept the license agreement, the recovery process starts with formatting the hard drive followed by reinstallation of the Operating System. This would happen inside your system, while using the Recovery partition.
When the recovery partitions are corrupted, there are different ways to solve the issue. The easiest among it is the partition table rebuilding. The partition table is the storage space that stores the details about the location and the size of the partitions. Even with the help of some software you would be able to access the corrupted partitions.
