Physical disk of the computer is divided in logical disks that can be noted "C", "D" and so on. These logical disks are known as "Volumes", too.
The information about the number of volumes from the physical disk is held in Master Boot Record and in Extended Partition Pointers. MBR and EPPs need 512 bytes free space each. MBR is formed from machine code necessary for the computer boot and up to 4 entries that form a partition. Every partition can be unused; can point to the volume directly or to EPP block. Every EPP block is formed from a pointer for the volume and a facultative pointer for the in chain EPP block. This fact allows the split of a physical disk in more than 4 logical volumes. The partition located n MBR is known as Primary Partition and the partition located in a partition from EPP is known as Logical Drive.
Recovering files from corrupted partition
When a disk is partitioned, it can be corrupted and it blocks the file. The consequence is that this file cannot be opened and read. Fortunately the data on a corrupted file can be recovered. To do this you must follow the next steps.
First of all, you must download the recovery software. Select "Unlocker" and then click on "Save file" when you are asked if you want to save a file.
Click twice on the downloaded program that appears in “Download” pop-up or on the desktop as an icon. Give OK and then click on Run when you are asked if you choose to continue running the program. Click right on the corrupted partition. Look in pull-down menu and select "Unlocker" in the new window that will appear you will be able to see the locks that prevent the opening of the file. Select “Unlock All” and "Quit". This process will allow the user to access the corrupted partition.
Tips for using Sony VAIO F series recovery partition
After you have recovered the partition it is recommended to backup all the important data on it. You must never install the recovery software on a mechanically faulty drive. More on, you must not use an infected drive to boot up the system. It is not recommended to keep the temporary files and the copied folders on a faulty drive. First of all, you must create an image if the drive has mechanical damages.
