Sony has finally announced that it will not be able to produce smartphones with quad-core this year. At the Mobile World Congress 2012, where various brands like LG, HTC, Fujitsu, and Huawei showcased their quad-core-enabled smartphones, Sony courageously announced its restriction regarding phones with quad-core. Instead, Sony came up with two dual-core smartphones named Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia U.
The Product Marketing Manager for Sony Mobile, Stephen Sneeden commented that Sony will be producing quad-core phones only when they will be confident about the performance of the battery efficiency by their smartphones. Till then the smartphones from Sony will be running on ARM Cortex A15 architecture.
When most of the currently available dual-core smartphones manage to give a backup of one day of battery life, playing with the idea of quad-core can sound very experimenting. Realizing that, Sony might be playing safe for the time being.
