Sony® PlayStation 3 Sales in Europe Skyrocket
The gaming industry is dominated by names like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. The global popularity of this industry is enough for industry giants to come up with new gizmos and gadgets for selling their stuff.
The successor to PlayStation 2 and the third generation of home video gaming console, PlayStation 3 is a gaming console that is selling like hot cakes in Europe. This next-generation gaming console is giving a run for its money to the Microsoft Xbox 360 as well as the 'veteran' gaming giants like Nintendo Wii.
Apparently, the reports reveal that Sony's PlayStation 3 sales have surpassed those of Microsoft's Xbox 360 in Europe. Nintendo hired an independent research firm to conduct a full sales data analysis within Europe. The reports clearly stated there was a difference of nearly a million sales between PS3 and Xbox 360. PS3 sold three million units whereas Xbox 360 sales stopped at just two million.
The primary reason in the skyrocketing sales can be due to the drop in the cost of 160GB PS3 from £249 to £199 and the cost of the 320GB version coming down from £299 to £249. This was a global price cut and it triggered sales. UK marketing director for Sony, Alan Duncan said:"The new price for PS3 will make the console accessible to a broad range of new consumers." The slash in the cost lead to a booming 65% rise in overall sales.
It looks like these sales might match the sales of its earlier avatar, the PS2.
